How to Reward Returning Visitors

How many times have you visited a site only to be asked for an email you already gave?

More than once, right?

If you annoy your subscribers with email popups, you risk them not wanting to return to your store, or worse, switching to a competitor.

The reality, though, is many marketers focus too much on collecting emails and overlook what happens after.

If you’re doing the same, don’t worry, you’re not alone. It’s easy to get caught up in building your email list quickly and forgetting the opportunity to convert your subscribers into customers.

Luckily, there’s a simple solution:

Recognize your returning visitors and reward them for being a subscriber.

  • With this Sleeknote recipe, you’ll learn how to:
  • Align your on-site messages with the buyer’s journey;
  • Engage your subscribers with personalized campaigns; and

Convert return visitors into customers.

Let’s see how you can do these in three simple steps.

Step 1: Hide Your Optin Popups from Subscribers

If you’re already running a Collect Email Addresses campaign, you want to make sure that your newsletter subscribers are excluded from it.

To do this, go to the Sleeknote Dashboard and go to the “My Campaigns” tab.

Find your Collect Email Addresses campaign and click the “Edit” button.

Proceed to the Targeting Options step in the campaign builder and switch the condition called “Newsletter Subscriber” on.

Then, choose “Visible for visitors not subscribed to my newsletter.” Doing so will prevent subscribers from seeing this campaign.

In the next step, you’ll create a special campaign for your newsletter subscribers and offer them an incentive to drive purchases.

Step 2: Create a Subscriber-Specific Campaign

First, click the campaign below:

Next, customize your campaign with a personal copy that welcomes returning visitors and offers them an exclusive discount code.

Guide them to your new arrivals with a benefit-driven call-to-action that reads “Discover My New Favorites.”

To limit this offer by time, add a countdown timer and drive urgency:

Once you’re happy with your campaign design, teaser, and the mobile version, proceed to “Settings.”

Step 3: Set Conditions and Triggers

In this last step, you’ll make sure that your campaign is only visible to your newsletter subscribers and that they show at the right time.

For better user experience, add a Timed trigger to your campaign and set it to seven seconds. This way, your campaign will pop up after a visitor spends at least seven seconds on your site.

To make sure that your campaign is only visible to your subscribers, add the “Newsletter Subscriber” condition.

But this time, set it to “Already” subscribed:

Note: Add ?SNSubscribed=true to the end of your newsletter URLs in order to place cookies to your subscribers’ browsers. This helps us identify your subscribers and non-subscribers and show the right campaign accordingly.

Save your campaign and that’s it!

You’re now ready to reward returning visitors.
