How to Recover Abandoning Visitors with Exit-Intent

Learn how to recover abandoning visitors with exit-intent. This video shows how to stop cart leavers and turn them into customers.

What is exit-intent?

Exit-intent detects when a visitor is about to leave your website and shows a popup at that exact moment. This gives you one last chance to engage before they’re gone.

Why exit-intent boosts conversions

Most visitors leave without buying or signing up. Exit-intent lets you step in at the right time—helping you reduce abandoned carts, capture more signups, and increase sales without disturbing already engaged visitors.

How to use exit-intent in Sleeknote

  1. Open your campaign in the Sleeknote builder.
  2. Set up your form and teaser as usual.
  3. Enable the exit-intent trigger to show the popup when visitors move to leave your site.
  4. Target specific subpages for more relevant campaigns—for example, show a discount in the cart, a signup form on product pages, or a feedback form on the thank-you page.
  5. Track performance in Sleeknote analytics to see how many visitors you re-engage and convert.

Tips

  • Use a strong incentive—like a discount or free shipping—to stop cart abandoners.
  • Keep your message short and clear. Visitors are already leaving, so get to the point fast.
  • Personalize campaigns by targeting them to different pages or visitor segments.

Speaker: Sofie

Hi, I’m Sofie. And in this video, I’ll show you how to recover abandoned visitors with exit intent. Why does that make sense? Because most of your visitors leave your website without buying or signing up to a newsletter. And once they’re gone, they’re gone. This is exactly what exit intent solves by showing a popup at the exact moment someone is about to leave your website.

That means fewer abandoned carts, more signups, and more sales. And the good thing is it’s without interrupting your already engaged visitors. So let me show you how to set it up in Sleeknote.

If we go to the builder, we have the campaign. We have the teaser that won’t show until after they’ve seen the form. And then if we click continue, we have the trigger. You’re just gonna enable the exit intent.

If we click continue again, you can take it even a step further by not showing the same message on all pages, but target specific subpages. So you can have an exit intent campaign for the basket. You can have one for your general product pages, and you can even have one for your thank you page asking for feedback, for example.

So if you’re not using exit intent today, you should definitely start doing so to stop losing visitors and start converting all of them.
