How to Split Test Your Popups

Learn how to split test popups with A/B testing. This video shows how data-driven insights boost conversions.

What is split testing for popups?

Split test popups by running two near-identical campaigns (A and B) to different visitor groups at the same time. Compare performance to learn what actually lifts conversions—no guessing.

Why split testing popups works

Headlines, images, and CTAs can all impact results, but without testing you can’t know which change helps. A/B testing isolates one change, splits traffic evenly, and turns opinions into data so you can improve conversion rate with confidence.

How to split test popups in Sleeknote

  1. Open your winning (or current) campaign and duplicate it to create Variant B.
  2. Edit Variant B with a single focused change (e.g., incentive, headline, or image).
  3. Go to Split testCreate new split test and give it a clear name (e.g., “Incentive”).
  4. Select the two campaigns (A and B) for the test and confirm an even traffic split.
  5. Save and activate now, or save as draft and activate when ready.
  6. Let the test run to significance, then pick the winner and iterate with a new hypothesis.

Tips

  • Test one variable at a time to know what caused the lift.
  • Use a single primary metric (e.g., submission rate or orders) and run long enough for reliable results.
  • Keep variants identical except for the tested change.
  • Name tests clearly and document learnings for the team.
  • Iterate: promote the winner, then launch the next test.

Hi. I’m Sofie. And in this video, I’ll show you how to split test your pop ups with AB testing.

The challenge can be that most marketeers actually don’t know what works the best. They don’t know if a new headline, a different image, or an updated CTA will actually make a difference. And without testing, you’re just guessing.

This is exactly what AB testing is solving by letting you run two almost identical pop ups at the same time where fifty percent of your visitors is seeing campaign a and the other half are seeing campaign b. You can actually, based on these results, takes decisions based on data.

What I’ve just done is that I have this free gift campaign.

I’ve just clicked the three dots and clicked duplicate.

And then this is the original one, free shipping. And then I’ve made another one where we’re asking if they want a free present. So in this case, we are gonna test the incentive, and we are just gonna go to split test. So you click split test here. You, click create new split test, and then you’re just gonna say we’re gonna call it incentive.

We’re gonna select the campaigns. I have a lot of campaigns on my, account. So let me just see if I can find it. Free gift and the other one called free gift. It’s just down here. Oh, I missed it.

Then what we’re gonna do, you can either save and activate it right away, or you can just click save and activate it when you’re ready. It’s a great way to actually make progress, improve your conversion rate, and make decisions based on data.
