Our 9 Favorite E-Commerce Marketing Tools (Tried & Tested)

  • Conversion Rate Optimization

E-commerce is growing like crazy. Global e-commerce sales went from being just $1.55 trillion in 2015 to $3.54 trillion in 2019—more than double.

And by 2023, that number is predicted to climb to $6.54 trillion.

So there’s plenty of opportunities out there.

One way savvy brands can maximize the potential of their stores and reel in more customers is by using the right e-commerce marketing tools.

Not only do they allow you to reach more prospects and improve the quality of your leads, but you can also keep shoppers more engaged once they arrive at your store and increase conversions.

And in many cases, this will lead to deeper customer loyalty so shoppers are more likely to return and tell others about you.

With that said, here are my picks for the top e-commerce marketing tools of 2019.

1. ReferralCandy

There’s no doubt that technology has changed the marketing landscape.

The techniques marketers use to reach consumers are more advanced, sophisticated and efficient than ever before.

But one thing that hasn’t changed is the impact of word-of-mouth marketing (WOMM).

Senior contributor at Forbes, Kimberly A. Whitler, refers to WOMM as “the original social media platform,” which I think is a great description.

She also mentions that “92 percent of consumers believe recommendations from friends and family over all forms of advertising,” and “64 percent of marketing executives indicated that they believe word of mouth is the most effective form of marketing.”

Those are numbers that are hard to argue with.

In my opinion, ReferralCandy is the best tool for increasing WOMM and boosting customer loyalty.

It’s really easy to use.

You simply create a customized form, and customers receive rewards like discounts for referring others.

You can place forms on landing pages, in emails, on the checkout page or anywhere else that makes sense.

And you can use their robust analytics to track referrals and gain key insights to optimize your campaign.

2. LoyaltyLion

LoyaltyLion an e-commerce marketing tool that drives engagement and loyalty by providing your customers with rewards and points.

“Increase repeat purchase and customer lifetime value with unique combinations of points and rewards that give customers more reasons to return to your store,” is their tagline.

You can award points for performing certain activities like reviewing a purchase, signing up for your newsletter or liking your brand on Facebook.

At the same time, customers can monitor and keep track of their rewards via their points balance.

You can also use points and tier systems to re-engage at-risk customers you’re in danger of losing.

Everything is fully customizable so that it matches your brand’s look, theme, and tone.

And you have access to in-depth insights for a snapshot of what percentage of your customers are loyal and how much money you’re getting from them.

The bottom line is that LoyaltyLion helps you get the absolute most of your customers while providing a fun, engaging experience.

And considering that increasing customer retention by just five percent can boost profits by 25–95 percent, this can have a huge impact on your long-term revenue.

3. OmniStar

Did you know that 16 percent of all online sales come from affiliate marketing?

It’s true.

This means that affiliate marketing drives about the same number of orders as email marketing

That’s why major brands like Amazon and Walmart are so willing to share a cut of their profits with affiliates in exchange for sales.

That’s the entire premise of Amazon Associates.

And this is something smaller e-commerce brands can take advantage too.

It’s just a matter of launching an effective affiliate program to promote your business—a process that OmniStar makes easy.

It allows you to create promo codes for affiliates that they can get from a customizable signup form.

From there, affiliates can share links to your products through email, social media, etc.

Any successful sale that comes from an affiliate will be tracked by OmniStar, and they’ll be paid with a commission, reward card or gift card.

All affiliates can monitor how much they’ve earned through their dashboard.

It’s all very straightforward and streamlined and even offers a great support system in case you need help or clarification on anything.

So if you’ve been interested in putting affiliate marketing to use but haven’t been sure how to get started, this is a tool worth checking out.

4. MobileMonkey

You probably already know that Facebook Messenger is popular.

But did you know that it had 1.3 billion users as of November 2018, and eight billion messages are sent between businesses and people on it each month?

I know that I find myself using instead of texting more and more.

As digital marketing expert Rivky Grauman puts it, “Facebook Messenger is quickly becoming the primary means of communication between brands and consumers. The channel opens up the opportunity for texts, photos, videos, maps, stickers, voice messages and group chatting.”

So why not make it a central part of your e-commerce marketing strategy?

MobileMonkey allows you to do just that.

It revolves around using chatbots and messaging automation to connect with e-commerce shoppers so you can nurture and qualify leads and convert and engage customers.

MobileMonkey allows you to have meaningful digital conversations on Facebook Messenger so you can point leads to relevant business pages, while at the same providing your brand with an efficient means of obtaining valuable customer information.

Here’s an example of MobileMonkey in action.

And if someone needs to talk to a human, you can quickly get them where they need to go without any friction.

MobileMonkey allows you to capitalize on the massive popularity of Facebook Messenger, create powerful connections with online shoppers and improve your customer service all in one easy to use platform.

So if Facebook is a key marketing channel for your business, this is one of the best e-commerce marketing tools you can use.

5. Buffer

There are nearly 3.5 billion social media users in 2019, which is nearly half the planet.

So, of course, social media is a go-to marketing resource for most e-commerce brands.

The only problem is that juggling several accounts like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest can be a daunting task.

After all, there’s only so much time in the day to post and curate new content, leave comments, respond to comments, and so on.

As a result, many e-commerce store owners find themselves completely overwhelmed.

If you’re looking for a way to calm the madness and take your social media marketing to the next level, then I highly recommend using Buffer.

It allows you to plan and collaborate on your content across multiple social networks from one convenient place.

“Draft your posts, coordinate with your team and orchestrate your social media marketing campaigns—everything that goes into crafting remarkable content,” Buffer says.

You can use it to schedule posts in advance…

…and customize posts for each network.

You can also create a detailed calendar so you always have a bird’s eye view of what’s happening at any given time.

And if there are multiple people on your team, keeping everyone on the same page is a cinch with direct scheduling, commenting, approvals, reminders and account management.

6. Sleeknote

While brick-and-mortar retail stores have an average conversion rate of 22.5 percent, that number is much lower for e-commerce stores and was a mere 2.86 percent in mid-2018.

So digital brands must do everything they can to fully engage visitors and nurture the ones who aren’t ready to buy right away.

Sleeknote is one of the top e-commerce marketing tools for doing this and has four main features:

  • Collect email addresses. Create beautiful opt-in forms to encourage visitors to sign up for your newsletter without hurting the user experience.
  • Increase product sales. Use tools like our SleekBar, Slide-In SleekBox, and Exit-Intent SleekBox to convince more first-time visitors to buy and more return visitors to make repeat sales.
  • Guide visitors. Create a highly customized experience to help shoppers find what they’re looking for.
  • Connect with visitors. Offer advice and targeted messaging to address key questions and concerns.

For example, you can use it to create beautiful forms for content upgrades.

Or for competitions and giveaways.

Sleeknote also offers built-in analytics so you can track the performance of each campaign every step of the way.

7. Countdown Cart

Urgency and scarcity are two powerful psychological tactics that can motivate e-commerce shoppers to take action.

One study by Experian found emails that conveyed urgency had at least a 14 percent higher open rate and led to twice as many transactions than average marketing emails lacking urgency.

And a classic study from 1975 by researchers Worchel, Lee and Adewole using cookies—two in one glass jar and 10 in another glass jar—found that people rated the jar with two cookies higher, indicating that scarcity influenced their perception of value.

Countdown Cart is a great e-commerce marketing tool that allows you to effectively use urgency and scarcity to increase revenue.

One feature is the stock countdown that shows there are only a limited number of products in stock.

Another is the countdown timer that shows that deals and discounts won’t last much longer.

On top of that, Countdown Cart allows you to leverage social proof like how many times shoppers have added an item to their cart or purchased it to serve as an incentive to buy.

It’s already used by more than 445,000 e-commerce store owners and can help you get a noticeable spike in sales.

8. Yotpo

Speaking of social proof, Yotpo is another fantastic tool that can help you win over more customers with reviews, ratings, customer photos and more.

It allows you to collect reviews and ratings the smart way with artificially intelligent requests on your site or through email and by using incentives like coupons and discounts.

Create fully customized widgets that incorporate elements of your branding, style and tone and that fit in perfectly with the look of your site.

And considering that positive online reviews influence the buying decisions of 90 percent of shoppers, this can result in a huge lift in conversions.

Another cool feature of Yotpo is customer photos and videos that can visually enhance your brand.

Integrate user-generated content to show your products in action, and allow your most loyal customers to give your brand their nod of approval.

You can place visual galleries on your homepage, category pages, product pages, and even your checkout page

Customize every detail, and Yotpo’s analytics will let you know about your performance so you can make key adjustments.

9. SEMrush

Ninety-three percent of online experiences begin with a search engine.”

So having a sound SEO strategy is incredibly important for e-commerce owners.

You need to know how you rank for targeted keywords, which keywords are bringing you the most traffic, where you can improve, and so on.

While there are a ton of SEO e-commerce marketing tools out there, one of my favorites is SEMrush.

Here are some specific things you can do with it:

  • Perform in-depth keyword research to identify phrases with high search volume and low competition
  • Get over two million keyword ideas with the Keyword Magic Tool
  • Perform backlink analysis to understand where your backlinks are coming from and the referring domains’ authority
  • See which keywords your competitors are ranking for
  • Gather comprehensive reports about your store’s performance

I also love that it’s so easy to use, and you certainly don’t need to be an SEO expert to take advantage of SEMrush.

So if one of your main goals is to improve your search engine rankings, this is a tool that I highly recommend.

And it doesn’t show signs of slowing down any time soon.

A large part of finding success is leveraging the right e-commerce marketing tools that help you to connect with your target audience and improve overall customer satisfaction.

While there are a lot of tools available, the ones mentioned here are my personal favorites in 2019 and can enhance most of the core aspects of your digital marketing campaign.
